3M 590 for Structural Glass and Window Glazing
3M 590 is a one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive sealant for structural glass and vehicle window glazing. The black, 310 mL cartridge can be applied with a compatible cartridge gun and bonds glass, acrylic, PMMA, polycarbonate, and other materials used in window assemblies.
Confirm the adhesive, primer, and surface-preparation requirements for your installation before use. 3M recommends primer for window bonding and says surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Do not apply 3M 590 to wet or frozen surfaces, over silicone, or while silicone is curing.

What the three-hour test means
Three hours is not a universal full-cure time. The 3M technical sheet reports that the product passed an FMVSS 212 crash test after three hours at 73°F and 50% relative humidity. Actual cure depends on temperature, humidity, bead size, substrate, surface preparation, and application. Follow the current 3M technical data and safety instructions for your job.

Does 3M 590 fully cure in three hours?
No universal three-hour cure should be assumed. The manufacturer lists a cure rate of more than 3.5 mm per 24 hours under stated conditions, and actual curing changes with the job conditions.
Does window bonding require primer?
3M recommends an appropriate primer on both bonding surfaces for window bonding. The correct primer depends on whether the surface is fritted glass, plain glass, PMMA, fiberglass, or metal.
Can 3M 590 bond polycarbonate?
3M lists polycarbonate among the materials this sealant can bond. The installer is responsible for confirming the product, primer, surface preparation, and method for the specific application.
